Race Feedback:

The 2014 race calendar got off to a good start with a great showing at the Bay to Bay on 5 January. We had about 15 runners participating in the 30km and the 15km race. Performances were mixed. Grant Oliver was the first Satori home, storming in at 2hrs32mins. He was followed closely by Jeremy van Zyl and Tracy Baxter. Special mention must be made of Mike Massingham who completed his first 30km race in an awesome time of 2hrs 35mins!! Well done on an awesome run Mike.

The rest of us trundled in at various times after these superstars, some finishing strong and others just hanging in there (me being one of those). The route proved to be a bit tough for many and a bit of a wake up call for the work that needs to be done in the weeks ahead. Oceans and Comrades are looming.

Becky had a great race and was still laughing and chatting at the end so it looks like her training for her first marathon is on track. Alison Wood improved her time by 9 minutes – keep on trucking Alison I think 2014 is going to be a good year for you. Reports are still filtering in but I think we all did Satori proud.

Last Saturday was the every hilly and challenging Hohenhort 15km and we had a good turn out here as well. We had about 10 Satorians participating and it was a good race for all and a nice warm up for those who missed Bay to Bay.

Saturday coming is the Red Hill Classic and Marathon. Good luck if you are running and if you aren’t, come along and support your club mates. A personal cheer from the side of the road is hugely encouraging and always very welcome.

Have you set your running goals for 2014? If not, pop down to time trial this week for inspiration and advice and a cold beer or two to get you in the right frame of mind.
See you there!
Moira Oliver

Sadly we are saying goodbye to one of Satori’s greatest ambassadors and runners. Luvuyo Ntando has decided to move to another club. We have been very privileged to have him flying the Satori flag and he has been a huge asset to the club. Luvuyo we wish you well and may you go from strength to strength in your running. We will be watching out for you on the podiums. Good luck.

An exciting race is taking place in Franschhoek on the 4th May 2014

It is called the Wings For Life World Run.  It is a global running event taking place in 35 countries across 6 continents.  South Africa has been lucky enough to have been chosen as one of the countries.  The event is a charity event with 100% of the proceeds going towards spinal cord injury research.  Entry fee for South Africa is R250-00.

The catch phrase is "Running for those who can't"

There is one global start time ( 12pm for South Africa ).  Runners will run a loop course in Franshoek with a catcher vehicle starting 30min after the start gun.  If the vehicle catches up to you your run is over.  There will eventually be one runner left globally.  Thats the concept in a nutshell.

For more info please see the website below.  It is not a Red Bull event.  The one and only aim is to "Run for those who can't".

Satori runners tops at Landmarks

Well done to Luvuyo (6th, Photo), Gerrit (9th) and Jimmy (10th). It's great to see our runners doing so well and flying the flag for our great little club!
and, and, and: I was checking the WPA results and I see that Moira Oliver was 2nd Master lady in the Chappies Challenge where Grant Oliver was 3rd Master, and Luvuyo was 5th overall in the Tokai Forest 15km! Well done!!

A note from the rooster:

The rooster run on Saturday was a quiet run with just myself and Michelle. It was a fantastic summers morning in Kommetjie with very little wind. We made our way up Slangkop and both remarked that we were sure this hill was getting longer. At the top we had to stop to admire the beautiful view. We headed down to Misty Cliffs where we turned around and made our way back over Slangkop. It was and enjoyable easy paced 14km run and I know lots of our club members can easily keep pace with us. So come and join us on a Rooster run to get rid of the winter blues. - Paul

Well done Race Team 2013, and well-deserved.
With the possible exception of the NRA (now NRC) events weekend on the Noordhoek Common, our race has become the biggest single annual sporting event in Noordhoek.

Thank you also all the Noordhoek landowners, landlords & land managers that have made this unique and exclusive race possible.
For 2 years in a row it has achieved an 87% rating by WPA, and around 6 000 enquiries were received this year against the 1 000 entries available - a fixed figure each year. The race was full 10 days after entries opened.

More innovation to follow around this for Race 2014.
