ROOSTER RUN - report Charissa Balman

Charissa lead an enthusiastic bunch of Satorian's on the Rooster Run this past Sunday. We ran from Glencairn to Muizenberg and back. It was a fresh crisp morning and the sunrise over the ocean was breath taking.

Some cruised along the catwalk and others were pushed out of their comfort zones. All in all lots of laughter, friendship and kilometers on the legs were shared by all.

Charissa has passed the Rooster baton onto Kevin who will lead the run this Sunday at 7h30 meeting at the BlackHill parking area for a trail run to the dam and surrounding areas.

The PB TT challenge is back!

Next Wednesday we will have a club competition and social. The end of term competition will be a PB time trial. The challenge is who can do a PB on the evening? Great prizes to be won and delicious burgers and drinks in our new clubhouse after the event. Please pop down and join us. We look forward to seeing you there.

Comrades and Fishermans' Challenge

Well done to all who ran Comrades two weeks ago – you are all heroes and warriors!

Well done to those who braved the weather conditions last Sunday for the Fisherman’s Challenge – go Satori warriors!

Sponsored runner's update

A big thank you to all the members who have contributed towards the development runners at Satori. Charissa took Luvoyo to Cape Runner and got Luvoyo a pair of racers and a pair of training shoes.

Luvoyo continues to fly the Satori flag and do extremely well in all the races. We are proud to have him in our club colours. He appreciates the support our members have given him.

Thank you for your continued contributions.

Barefoot running workshop

Anyone interested? David Hotz ran workshops in Australia, he has settled back in SA and has offered to do a barefoot running workshop. The duration is about 1.5 to 2 hours.

The proposal is a Sunday morning, mid-June at the Silvermine R5 parking side as he needs a gravel incline. Thinking of taking up the Satori Gazebo so that hot tea and coffee will be on tap. Cost of workshop is donations of used running gear. Anyone interested – friends and other club members are welcome? And yes, you can wear your shoes! Contact Lorna 082 856 4440 so that we can co-ordinate a date and numbers.

Club runs

A bulk SMS will go out to club members before Sunday's run.

The word is out

It is amazing what you can pick up by staying alert (read sober) at the club house after time trial and by staying up to date on Facebook. This is what I heard….

Bridget Farham has been quietly doing some speed training and it is starting to show. Bridget achieved PBs in the last two 10km races she entered and her current best time is 1hr1min and a few odd seconds. Well done Bridget! We are watching you and look forward to some more great running times. Another Satori warrior who snuck a PB in under the radar is Paul van den Berg. Well done on your 1hr55min time at the Brackenfell half marathon.

And Becky, our incredible hulk, won a silver medal in the UWC 10km race on Saturday. Well done Becky!

The PB TT challenge is back!

Get your speed shoes on folks because the PB time trial is back. In order to qualify you must have run at least 3 time trials this year – you still have a few weeks left to qualify. On the 20th it will be all about speed so come and race against your best time and make it even better.
Time Trial will start at 6pm as per normal and there will be refreshments and burgers on sale afterwards. Bring the family. RSVP This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for catering purposes. See you there!

Sponsored runner's update

Thanks to all for your generous donations, Charissa is taking Luvoyo to Cape Runner to get a new pair of racing shoes (Klaus and Madoda have been donated a pair of shoes each). Darren has met with Klaus and Madoda and put a training programme together for them. All three of our runners are aiming for John Korasie 30 km in August and the Cape Town Marathon in September. Klaus came 14th in the Lion 21 km earlier in the year and holds the record for the Satori Peak Challenge – 13kms at just over 51minutes. Madoda is coming back from a calf injury and Luvoyo is recovering from a hard Two Oceans Marathon.

Madoda Feni, one of our sponsored runners, is desperately looking for work. Madoda is a stone mason by trade but will do any work – garden etc. He lives in Masiphumelele and would be very grateful for any jobs. Madoda is contactable on 073 093 2110.

Luvoyo Nthando, another of our sponsored runners, would really like to enter the Soweto Marathon (4th November). If anyone is planning on going to Johannesburg during this time and could offer a lift, please let us know. Alternatively, a plea to anyone who perhaps has voyager miles or would like to donate an air ticket? Please contact Lorna on 082 856 4440.

Peak Challenge

At about 6.30am on Sunday morning I was filling the flasks with hot water when I heard the rain pounding on the roof and my first thought was “well there go the numbers” and I was right! Nine hardy souls braved the wet and cold conditions to participate in the second running of the Satori Peak Challenge.

Klaus, one of our development runners, sped off and was soon out of sight of the rest of the pack. The support crew then had time for another coffee and then it was time to get busy.

Katrina, Mark and Lyndall got everything ready for the breakfast rolls while Moira, the time keeper pulled on her wet weather gear as she prepared to brave the elements. But preparation is all she did as the warmth of the club house was too tempting and as a result the first runner took her by surprise, running into the club house in a time of 51.38mins for the 13km course.

Well done to Klaus for setting the new course record, it is going to be a tough one to beat. The first lady home was our own incredible hulk, Becky Jones. The rest of the pack all came in smiling and enthusiastically gave us a blow by blow of their runs. By all accounts they had a great time and the delicious bacon and egg rolls and hot coffee were enjoyed by all. The random number prize went to position number 5 and Carmen was the lucky lady. And the final prize was awarded to the wettest runner and this was shared by Craig and Bridget.

Thanks to all those runners who made the effort to be there. I hope the rest of you had a good lie-in and we hope to see you at the next one!
