Camel Run Thank you!!!

This week we have a further two thank yous for the Camel Run

A big thankyou to Charissa!

A lot of work goes into making sure that the Satori Camel run is an event to remember. We have become famous for our buffs, our fun water tables and special prizes like the 500th runner’s jacket.
Obtaining sponsorship, prizes and organising the water tables are activities that only our club chairperson is able to pull off. Charissa has been covering this portfolio since race inception and because she does it so well and makes it look so effortless (I won’t tell anyone about the gray hair) we forget how much work is involved.
The prize giving this year was flawless with some great innovations like the Dutch Auction and the Camel Quiz.

Charissa, a great big THANK YOU from the race committee and all the members. We are already looking forward to next year.

And from Bianca, one of our lucky Camel runners.

Last weekend I was fortunate as a Satori club member to take part our race, the Camel Run. It was an amazing experience from start to finish that I’m sure will never be matched by any other race that I run.
I was greeted by name by most of marshals, and cheered on by nearly every supporter! Even the other runners had a few special chirps for me as we made our way up “that” hill in the vineyard. I was grinning the whole way, even when plodding through the beach sand, and squelching through mud on the Docke’s farm. I was immensely proud to be a Satorian.

I’d like to thank the Committee for giving me this thoroughly unique running experience that I will never forget, and I’d also like to urge other club members to get involved with the Camel Run Race Committee.
I’m sure there’s a portfolio that’s looking for a helping hand next year.

I’d also like to thank all the marshals who were not only friendly, but informative and on-the-ball. I now realise why it takes an army of marshals for the race – there are plenty of twists and turns on the course! And thanks to everyone who helps out behind the scenes and on race day.
After the race I did a few extra kms back over some of the course, and I got to witness some of the tireless work done by volunteers from our club behind the scenes – waiting patiently to marshal in the last runners, taking down all the bunting and signage, picking up every last water sachet, and at the finish taking down all the infrastructure that goes into making the race such a success.

The Camel Run is an incredible race, put together by a small club. Well done to everyone who played a part in making it a wonderful success again.

Bianca

A smiling Bianca!

Charissa with Amber & Sebastian.

Two reports from the X-Country event held on Sunday

We were blessed with a beautiful winters day. Moira and Grant greeted us all to a hot cuppa before we set off on our x-country route.
Charissa led the run and surprised us with some diversity. The route took us deep into the fynbos and surrounding areas and all participants finished off with muddy and very wet shoes which made the experience more FUN.
Roland and Lindy joined us with their four legged family and all who took part had a great morning.
A big thank you to The Michigan Spur in Longbeach for sponsoring the prizes.
Congratulations to the Wood family and the Kemp family they are off to Spur for their great efforts.
A big thank you to Katrina and Lyndall for catering. Katrina spoilt us with delicious egg and bacon rolls.
A real treat to end off a fun morning. Thanks to all the members that supported this event.

Sunday morning was glorious and it was a pity that only a few Satori families turned out for the inaugural running of the Family x-country. The old faithfuls gathered at 8h30 for some tea and coffee to get the blood pumping while Katrina and her team of helpers got things going in the kitchen.

Charissa was the rabbit for the day and everyone was given strict instructions not to overtake her. The 4km route had to be modified due to the small issue of a lake in the middle of the route but there were some sighs of relief from certain quarters. Teams were advised that there would be a prize for the first family home and a prize for the most spirited team. They set off at a reasonable pace and Lorna, our sweep, had to march at a pretty brisk tempo to keep up. Granted, she was a last minute volunteer and had not dressed for the occasion but she did a sterling job and even worked up a bit of a sweat.

The Wood family were triumphant and they left everyone else in their mud, which is what happens to dust when it gets wet! Congratulations to them all, they will be heading off to the Spur to spend their winnings. Next up was a combined team of two and four legged which is still a family and the Croxfords came in smiling and with tails wagging and looking ready for more (the four-legged ones that is). And the most spirited team was the Kemp/Downing/Westford(sp) team who got a little lost and took a little bit of a short-cut in the last 20 metres but they came in cheering and skipping, except for Mark of course. Well done to all of you!

Katrina and her team then spoilt us with her delicious bacon and egg rolls. All in all a perfect way to start a sunny winter Sunday.
Join us next time.

A wet weekend!

I hope everyone is enjoying their winter running, and congrats to all the wet folk who splashed through the puddles this last weekend (you know who you are!)
Apparently Lyndall ( a true Satori warrior ) was one of those affected by the cancellation of the Knysna Marathon and by all accounts the rain was hectic.
But, there were five brave souls who went out with the rooster run on Sunday morning and had a great, if a bit wet, time.
