Two tales from the Gun Run

Firstly from Trixie, her first ever half:

I ran my first Half Marathon on the weekend: the Gun Run!
I would never have thought to run a 21km, as I only started running in April and run mostly trails with my dog Sam. So thanks to Satori for suggesting to set this goal. It was an awesome experience!
The weather conditions were perfect and the views along the way pretty spectacular. Thanks to Kevin for getting me there well on time and supporting me along the way.
And a big thank you to Paul, who ran with me the entire route, kept me going, kept me motivated, chatted, chirped and made the kilometers fly by. I would not have made it in the time we did, were it not for his encouragement. I'll definitely be back for more!

And then from Paul van den Berg, who has been so brilliant in helping our newbie runners, Paul you are a STAR:

The time had come for the new/beginner runners to stand on the line and complete the Gun Run 21.1 km race. Unfortunately Claire and Kirsty did not manage to get an entry so it was myself, Michelle and Trixie flying the Satori flag. It was a cold morning and I met up with Trixie in the car park and we made our way to the start line, not out of eagerness to get the run going but to find some much need warmth. We did not manage to find Michelle as there were nearly 11 000 people all trying to get to the start line to share that much needed heat. The gun went off and it was game on. There crowds thinned out after the first few kms and we could settle into a steady pace. We passed Michelle at the 7-8 km mark at an out and about section and she was looking strong. Michelle had a lead on us of less than 1km but we could not catch her. Trixie had a good run for her first 21km and we never walked once. On the home stretch we both felt good and upped the pace for the last 3 kms to cross the line in 2hr08min. Thanks to Kevin for the support along the way at the 10km and 20 km mark. Michelle's crossed the line in 2hr04min so just pipping us across the line, what a fantastic achievement for her. I look forward to doing more of these 21 km runs and getting new runners involved in the running programme.
