Satori Athletics Club was officially born in January 2006. The name 'Satori' refers to a Japanese state of harmonious balance between mind, body and emotions.

The Wednesday evening five kilometre time trial is the central club event of the week. Those not yet bitten by the running bug can join the walkers group, while children are an integral part of the club - there is always a parent watching over them. Once the time trial is over, its time to chill. Sipping a post-run beer or cider with friends while watching the summer sun go down over the Atlantic is idyllic.

Satorians can also be found gathered around braai fires at the Oasis several times a year, and occasionally dancing under the stars to a superb selection of music.

In the end however, Satori is about the pure joy of running. Members come in all shapes and sizes and assorted fitness levels.

On Friday evening at the AGM we bade a fond farewell to our outgoing chairperson Charissa Balman. Charissa of course founded the club back in 2006 and has had her hand on the guiding tiller ever since. Recently however she has had so many personal, health and other commitments that she thought it was time for her to step aside and let someone else take over the reigns. She will still take a strong interest in the club and we hope to even see her running with us in the future! Thank you for everything Charissa.

Steve, Charissa and "best male runner" Gimmy

And the exciting news is that we have a new chairperson, the winner of the "best spirit" award Mr Steve Sharwood! Steve has many ideas for ways to improve the club and with his enthusiasm and help from our members we will succeed! A new committee was also elected on Friday evening and some new portfolios were added. Alison Wood has taken over the website and I see that already we have new info up there, thanks Alison! The new portfolio of Trail Training was taken on by Trixie and Nicky, but we are still looking for someone to take on Road Training. This would basically entail putting together our weekend rooster runs so if you feel like being involved give us a shout. We are also on the lookout for a Social Convener.

Race Feedback:

Well done to everyone who ran Red Hill at the weekend. Our runners did us proud, in the 36km classic Gerrit was 9th, Gimmy was 12th and Madoda 35th! You can just spot them here in their fabulous new style kit! More images are on the Satori Facebook page.

An exciting race is taking place in Franschhoek on the 4th May 2014

It is called the Wings For Life World Run.  It is a global running event taking place in 35 countries across 6 continents.  South Africa has been lucky enough to have been chosen as one of the countries.  The event is a charity event with 100% of the proceeds going towards spinal cord injury research.  Entry fee for South Africa is R250-00.

The catch phrase is "Running for those who can't"

There is one global start time ( 12pm for South Africa ).  Runners will run a loop course in Franshoek with a catcher vehicle starting 30min after the start gun.  If the vehicle catches up to you your run is over.  There will eventually be one runner left globally.  Thats the concept in a nutshell.

For more info please see the website below.  It is not a Red Bull event.  The one and only aim is to "Run for those who can't".
